Cambodia's Energy Infrastructure

Advantages

  • Electricity is accessible and can be generated from a variety of renewable and non-renewable energy sources.
  • It is manageable and can be transported over long distances through transmission and distribution networks.
  • Electricity is flexible and can be converted into other forms of energy, such as light, heat, or motion.
  • Renewable energy plays a key role in generating electricity without greenhouse gas emissions. This contributes to reducing air pollution and supports a cleaner environment.

Disadvantages

  • Unwanted Side Effects: Power plants harm the environment. Biomass and fossil fuels pollute the air, nuclear waste is dangerous, and hydropower dams harm wildlife.
  • High costs: Electricity can be expensive, especially in regions with high utility rates.
  • Causes Pollution: Excessive electricity generation, such as burning coal, causes air pollution, contributing to global warming due to the greenhouse gas effect.
